House Exchange is a good thing to have as it does mean that you don’t have to wait long like you would on a normal waiting list.

We need you to tell us some information about where you live now and where you would like to live. Use the note fields to tell other people more about where you live now and any thing that is really important to you in a new home. Once you have submitted your details you will be able to add additional things that are important to you and any additional areas that you would also like to move to. You can also run searches but at this stage you will not be able to view the other person's contact details.

After your details have been checked you will be sent an ID number to go with your password you will then be able to sign in. You will then be able to view the full details of people wanting to exchange.

4: Pictures of where you live now (optional):

You may load up to 2 pictures of where you live, possibly a front view together with a garden view if you have one. All images loaded onto the system are checked before they are allowed to go live. This is to prevent unpleasant, improper or fraudulent images being displayed.

Click the 'New/Change picture...' link to start the 3 step image loading process.
  1. A new page will open, click the 'Browse' button in the centre of the screen and search on your computer for the picture you wish to use. Photographs from a digital camera are perfect but please bear in mind that the picture type must be jpeg or jpg and the largest file size is 2MB.

When you have selected your picture click the 'Next' at the bottom of the screen. Your picture will now be uploaded to the server, this may take some time. If the picture type is not Jpeg or the file is larger than 2MB you will be notified at this point.

  2. The next screen allows you to select which part of the picture you wish to use. The picture is displayed with a 'selection box' laid on top of it. The selection box may cover all or part of the picture depending on its height and width. You can drag the square boxes at each corner to change the size of the box. You can also move the box by dragging inside the box.

Please bear in mind that you can alter the size and position of the box but you cannot alter its shape. If you change the width the height will automatically adjust itself to keep the same shape and vice versa. When you have the right area of the picture in the selection box click 'Finish' to complete the process.

  3. When the picture has been processed and stored the window closes and a small icon image is displayed. At this point you can delete the picture, replace it with a new picture or by clicking on the icon image you can see your pictures as they will appear in the site. The two types used in the site are the 'Main picture' and the 'Thumbnail'.

The 'Selected' image will disappear once the registration form 'Submit' button at the foot of this page is clicked. It is a temporary file used to create the other images and is not stored long term in the system. The 'Icon' image is the very small picture used in this page.

5: Where you would like to live:

Think about where you want to move to. Tell us the main town/city or village and then tell us how far away from this you would consider moving to. The bigger you can keep your area the more likely you are to find an exchange.
